James "Jim" Charles Skroski's Obituary
James (Jim) Charles Skroski (87) joined his Heavenly Father in his eternal home on August 16, 2025. Jim was born to Charles and Agnes Skroski on September 15, 1937, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He lovingly took on the role of big brother to Richard (Judy) and Thomas (Maureen). Jim graduated from Marquette University and its NROTC program. Following graduation, he proudly served our country in the Navy for four years.
In 1962, he married the love of his life, Shirley Wieland. They grew their family by becoming parents to Karen (Richard), John (Tracy), Sharon (Mitchell), David (Jenny), Michelle (Shawn), and Suzanne (Steve). Over the years, Jim's family tree blossomed by adding 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Jim’s career as a mechanical engineer was divided between J.I. Case and Mercury Marine, where he enjoyed both his duties and his coworkers. Through the years, Jim took pride in his involvement in religious education, Little League softball, and the Boy Scouts of America organization. He was a dedicated member of St. Raphael’s Catholic Church, where he volunteered as a reader and could often be found serving meals at Friday night fish fries. In his retirement, he volunteered at Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, where he happily completed any tasks asked of him.
Jim loved spending time outdoors. Amongst his favorite activities were weekend getaways to the family cottage on the Rock River, where he enjoyed fishing, boating, canoeing, swimming, and waterskiing. Jim especially loved fishing the Chippewa Flowage when given the opportunity. Jim had many cherished memories from family vacations throughout his lifetime, with Treeland Resort being a particularly favored destination. Other hobbies included gardening, traveling, and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Jim is survived by his wife, Shirley Skroski, and their six children and their spouses, fourteen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Agnes, his mother-in-law, Marcella, his brother, Tom, and his granddaughter, Anna.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Jim on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at 11 am in St. Raphael Catholic Church, 830 S. Westhaven Drive in Oshkosh with the Rev. Tom Long as celebrant. A time of visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9 am until the time of Mass. Full military honors will immediately follow the Mass at church.
