James Michael Kasper's Obituary
James Michael Kasper passed into the arms of his heavenly Father on October 16, 2024 after a
courageous battle with cancer. Jim was born February 7, 1954 in Oshkosh to John and Evelyn
Kasper; attended St John Catholic Grade School, and Lourdes Catholic High School. Jim’s
Catholic faith and his family were always of the highest importance to him. He graduated cum
laude from the College of Nursing at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 1995 then worked
as a registered nurse in pediatrics, a nursing field he was very passionate about. Jim was a
member of the Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. He had numerous hobbies
including gardening, acting, playing piano/organ and especially singing. Jim sang for most of
his adult life in various groups including the Oshkosh Chamber Singers, the UWO Chamber
Singers (with whom he sang in Hungary and Czechoslovakia), and the Mixed and Men’s Choirs
at St. Raphael Catholic Church. He played piano/organ and sang for many Masses and
weddings at St. John and St Raphael parishes as well, playing prior to his own wedding at St
Mary Catholic Church where he married the love of his life, Mary Galica of Oshkosh, on May 1,
1976.
Jim and Mary raised two wonderful daughters, Laura and Christina, and have been a
very important part of the life of their dear granddaughter Aurora Lee. Jim loved trips to Door
County and also loved working as a long-time regular volunteer running the dessert table at the
St Raphael annual Lenten Parish Fish Fry.
Jim is survived by his wife Mary, his daughters Laura and Christina, his granddaughter Aurora Lee, his brothers Patrick (Paula), Tony (Pamela), and sister Sandra Huck (Michael).
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Evelyn Kasper, father-in-law Harry Galica and grandparents Michael and Josephine Kasper, and Harold and Ethel Dodd.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated for Jim on Saturday October 26, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St Raphael Parish, 830 S Westhaven Dr, Oshkosh. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11:00 AM at the church. A luncheon will be served after the Mass, and internment will be at Lakeview Cemetery, Oshkosh, on Monday October 28 at 3:00 PM.
Jim’s family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation for the excellent and loving care Jim received from the Aurora Medical Center and hospice staff,
