James M. Noffke's Obituary
James M. Noffke, age 79 of Oshkosh, passed away Thursday evening, June 4, 2009 in the Evergreen Retirement Community. On November 27, 1929 he was born in Appleton, the son of Henry A.and Marie (Schroth) Noffke. He attended grade schools in Appleton and Oshkosh, and graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1947. He married Lorraine Stange on May 21, 1960 at St. Josaphat Catholic Church in Oshkosh. James served his country in the U.S. Army, First Armored Division based in Fort Hood, Texas and spent almost two years in Germany, He was associated ith Noffke Lumber, Inc., until 1970 and then operated a small hardwood business in Oshkosh. He became interested in local politics and served as Assessor in the Town of Oshkosh as well as Town Chairman. He also enjoyed duck hunting in his younger years. He was a member of St. Josaphat Parish until it closed and served as President of its first Parish Council. He now was a member of the Most Blessed Sacrament Parish (St. Peter site). He was also a member of the American Legion Cook-Fuller Post No. 70 and its Last Man's Club II. James is survived by Lorraine, his wife of 49 years; his brother: Henry (Marion) Noffke, Jr., of Oshkosh; his sister: Helen Sanvidge of Winneconne. He is further survived by nieces and nephews and other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws: Emil and Mayme Stange and his brother-in-law: Neil Sanvidge. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 9, 2009 in the Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church (St. Peter site) 435 High Street, Oshkosh, with the Rev. Fr. Jim Jugeheimer a celebrant. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Oshkosh. Friends may greet the family from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Fiss & Bills Funeral Home, 865 S. Westhaven Drive, Oshkosh on Monday, June 8, 2009, with a Prayer Service to be held at 6:45 p.m., and from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday in the church.
