James S. Rasmussen's Obituary
James Steven Rasmussen, age 74, passed away early Sunday morning, October 29, 2023, at St. Elizabeth Hospital after a series of brief illnesses. He was born in Oshkosh on August 31, 1949, a son of the late Kenneth H. and Eleanor M. (Lux) Rasmussen. On May 9, 1970, Jim married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Linda R. Sippl. James and Linda enjoyed 51 years of marriage until Linda passed on September 11, 2021. James worked extremely hard as a fork truck driver and receiving clerk at various factories throughout his life, including The Foundry, Oshkosh Truck, Rockwell & AxleTech (Meritor), before retiring.
James was relatively quiet and reserved, not sharing many words besides with those he was closest to. Those who knew him best got to see his goofy side and hear his funny quips. In his younger years, he served in the Army Reserves for seven years during the Vietnam War. James was rather musically talented and enjoyed playing the organ and accordion. He loved all types of games, whether cards, Yahtzee, or the slot machines he would play on his many gambling trips or when visiting his family in Las Vegas. He will miss spending time at Silver Lake in Wild Rose and visiting Wisconsin Dells and Las Vegas. Along with caring deeply for all his children and grandchildren, James also cared dearly for his many pets throughout his lifetime.
James is survived by his sister, Chris (John) Nolte of Oshkosh, all three of his children, Tammi (Ben) Johnson, Las Vegas, NV, Jodi (Tom) Rucinski, & Matthew Rasmussen, Oshkosh, his grandchildren, Angel Rasmussen (AJ Doyle), Las Vegas, NV, Jemiah, Gabriel, Madison, Cameron, & Grey Rucinski, and Maddox & Kennedi Johnson, Anjie (Jeff) Smith, Adrienne (Zack), Ezra McQuade and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
His parents preceded him, as well as his wife Linda (Sippl) Rasmussen; his brothers Noel (Jean) Rasmussen, Ronald (Barbara) Rasmussen, & infant David Rasmussen; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Loraine (Tollard) Sippl; brother-in-law Joseph Sippl, sister-in-law Brenda Sippl, grandson Benny Johnson Las Vegas, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A memorial Mass for James will be held on Wednesday, November 8, at 11:00 AM in St Raphael Catholic Church, with the Rev Quinn officiating. There will be a luncheon to follow. Family and friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 AM until the hour of services.
