Jan Alan Nicholl's Obituary
Jan aka "Stick" passed away at the age of 76 on Tuesday September 10, 2024 at Cherry Meadows Hospice in Appleton.
Jan was born in Oshkosh, WI on March 7, 1948 to Robert and Lydia (Peppler) Nicholl. He married Mary Schneider on May 27, 1972 in Oshkosh.
Jan graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1966. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1967. He was honorably discharged in May 1971. He joined the Neenah Police department in November of 1971. He served and protected for almost 20 years when an injury forced him to retire early. After he retired from the department he kept busy for a number of years working parttime at two snowmobile shops in the area. He worked fulltime for a while at Bergstroms in Neenah as a shuttle driver. In the early 2000's he became a bailiff in the Winnebago County Court System parttime until Mary retired. He then spent his winters in Fort Myers, Florida. He was a member of American Legion Post 70 Oshkosh.
Jan is survived by his wife of 52 years Mary. One Brother-in-Law Thomas (Becky) Schneider of Oshkosh. One nephew Erick Schneider of Oshkosh. He is further survived by his Godsons Patrick (Lisa) Gelhar, Joseph (Jennifer) Gelhar, and Matthew (Tiffani) Gelhar and all their children who called him Papa Jan. His lifelong and very special friend Pat and Carla (Sisto) Gelhar. All of Oshkosh. Also his longtime friend Mark Severson of Appleton. He is further survived by cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his In-Laws Frank and Edith Schneider, and his Brother-in-Law Michael Schneider.
Mary would like to thank the staff at Cherry Meadows Hospice for the loving care they gave him these past two weeks.
Funeral services for Jan will be on Monday September 16, 2024 at Fiss & Bills Funeral Home at 865 S. Westhaven Dr., Oshkosh, WI. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 AM with a small prayer service at 11:00. Internment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Oshkosh.
