Jeanne Carol Phillip's Obituary
Jeanne C. Phillip, age 94, died on August 28, 2018, at Park View Health Center in Oshkosh. She was born in Kewaskum, Wisconsin, on February 2, 1924, to Olive (Haug) and Roman Strupp.
Jeanne graduated from Kewaskum high school on May 29, 1941. She then attended Wisconsin State Teacher’s College (now UW-Oshkosh) where she graduated on June 16, 1945, with a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education. Jeanne then continued her education at the University Of Minnesota, graduating on June 16, 1951, with a second bachelor’s degree in Library Science. She was the librarian at Rhinelander high school in Rhinelander, Wisconsin, where co-worker Genevieve Phillip introduced Jeanne to her brother, John F. Phillip. Jeanne and John married on September 1, 1951, at St. Peter’s Church in Oshkosh.
Jeanne was a member of Sacred Heart Church. She and her family lived in a white house on Sixth Street for over 60 years. She devoted her life to her family, making each of her children feel like he or she was her favorite. She enjoyed baking and sewing, and she never stopped reading, particularly history and biography. She encouraged all of her family members to never stop learning.
Jeanne and John had nine children: Jenny Phillip, Olivia (Ray) Trabbold, Margaret (Walter) Koskinen, Jonathan (Val) Phillip, Joel (Gweyn) Phillip, Betsy (Bill) Plummer, Andy (Amie) Phillip, Hilary (Bruce) Nelson, and Tom (Kristin) Phillip. She had 14 grandchildren: Steward (Stacie) Koskinen, Liz (John Letourneaux) Koskinen, and Alex Koskinen; Lindsay (Reed) Johnson, Allison (Tim) Burns, and Graeme Phillip; Emily and Grace Phillip; Mimi, Andy and Molly Plummer; Louis Nelson; and Katie and Sam Phillip. She also had four great-grandchildren: Robert Koskinen, Rachel and Hailey Johnson, and Charlie Burns.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband John F. Phillip, siblings Jim (Elsie) Strupp, Monica (Eugene “Barney”) Barnard, Jerry (Gerda) Strupp, her daughter Jenny and son Andy, and her granddaughter Emily.
A funeral mass will be held at St.Jude Parish, Sacred Heart Catholic Church on 6th and Knapp Street in Oshkosh on Saturday, September 8, 2018, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation at the church from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Valley VNA, Park View Health Center, and ThedaCare Hospice, all of whom took good care of Jeanne in her last years of life.
A memorial fund will be established for the Oshkosh Public Library, ThedaCare Hospice, and Lourdes Academy.
