Jerry Lee "Chief" Davis' Obituary
Jerry Lee “Chief” Davis, died on Saturday July 28, 2018 at the age of 83. Chief started his 65 year career in the painting industry in Madison, WI. Upon graduating from the apprenticeship program, he was awarded the “Outstanding Apprentice of the Year” award. Jerry believed in never-ending leaning aJnd improving in his profession and his life. Upon mastering his craft, he shared his knowledge and skills by teaching apprentices in the 1970's and 1990's. He also held a seat on the state Joint Apprenticeship Committee for many years. In 1974, Chief started Davis Painting and Decorating, Inc. eventually selling it to his son Randy in 1992. He remained active in the business as a part time employee until a few months prior to his death. He was a lifelong outdoorsman, spending many days hunting, or fishing for trout in the Wedde Creek and Mecan River in Waushara County. An animal lover, he was often seen walking his dog around the neighborhood he loved, or throwing tennis balls and handing out treats at the dog park, where he was affectionately nicknamed the “dog whisperer”. An avid Packer fan, he liked to discuss their successes and failures, as well as those of the American political system, with whoever would listen over a pot of coffee (or two). He will be greatly missed!
Jerry was preceded in death by his sisters, Barbara and Nancy and a son, Scott. His spirit lives on in his family, including his wife of 62 years, Carol; a son Randy (Stacey), and a daughter, Jamie (Michael) Kiesling. Also, Randy's children, Molly and Blair; Jamie's children, Alex and Brett and Scott's children, Chad and Tyler. There will be a private service for immediate family and a celebration of life for friends, family and co-workers at a later date.
