JoAnn Costello's Obituary
Joann was called to her heavenly home on Saturday, September 14, 2024 with her daughter by her side.
She was born in Ripon, WI on April 19, 1949, the daughter of Paul R. Steinberg and Bernice Steinberg Miller (Hollman). Joann married Johann Costello on December 29, 1972 at Our Savior's United Church of Christ in Ripon, WI. Joann graduated from Ripon High School and Oshkosh Technical Institute with an Accounting Degree in 1969. Joann retired from AT&T after 40 years where she used her art talent and accounting skills in the Engineering Department as a CAD designer. Joann was a founding member of Professional Women of AT&T (PWATT) and a member of Wisconsin Pioneers of AT&T. She pursued her B.S. Degree in Human Services from Upper Iowa University.
Joann was an active member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ where she was involved Daughters of Sarah, Bible study, and a long time Sunday School teacher (20 years) where she was proud to have taught her grandchildren. As a Sunday School teacher, Joann was known for always handing out treats, especially fruit snacks. Joann was also active in the Red Hat Society. Joann loved being a grandma and had a very active role in raising her grandchildren (Brayden & Farrah). Joann will be greatly missed and remembered as a person who always had a smile on her face. She was known as a fair and pleasant person to be around.
Joann is survived by her two daughters, Jaina Ziegler (Brian) and Jolene Finley (Michael), her
grandchildren Bradley and Brayden Butkiewicz, Briana Ziegler, and Farrah and Noah Finley, She is
further survived by her brother Dennis Steinberg (Susan), her nephew Michael Steinberg Jr. (Audrey) and her niece, Amanda Zick (Jason).
Joann was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Johann Costello, her parents, Paul and
Bernice Steinberg, her step-father, Bill Miller, her brother and his wife and daughter, Michael Sr.,
Rebecca, and Michelle Steinberg, and her sister and brother-in-law, Carol and David Gray.
The family would like to especially thank Leslie, Michelle, Barb, Jess, and all of the other caretakers at Elijah's place in Oshkosh as well as all of the hospice workers from Heartland for the loving care she received on her journey.
Funeral services for Joann and her husband, Johann, will be at Emmanuel United Church of Christ on Friday, September 20, at 11:00 AM, Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. There will be a small luncheon at the church following the service, with internment at Woodlawn Cemetery in Ripon to follow.
