JOEL CLARENCE EDSON's Obituary
Joel Clarence Edson, age 80, passed away peacefully at Park View Health Center in Oshkosh on November 30, 2015 from dementia. He was born at home in Barron, WI. to Clarence and Jessie Hutchison Edson on July 26, 1935.Joel was Baptized and Confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Barron, WI. He was very involved with sports at Barron High School. He was very proud of being one of the first five on the basketball team who were all Eagle Scouts. After graduating from St. Olaf College in 1957 he entered a three year tour as part of the ROTC program. He then returned to Barron to go into the family business, Butter City Oil & Fuel Company. In 1959 he was joined in marriage to Colleen Hutchinson in Faith Lutheran Church in Cameron, WI. From this union three children. In 1970 he moved his family to Oshkosh, to work at the university. He finished his Masters Degree in Education Administration from UW Madison. He became Chief Financial Officer in 1982. In 1995 Joel was recognized for twenty-five years of service and appreciation. It was a job he really enjoyed until his retirement in 2000. He was the Town of Algoma Treasurer for over thirty years. He had a great sense of humor and was always ready with a joke.
Joel is survived and will be sadly missed by his children Kathy (Tim) Cogswell, Kevin (Sherri) Edson, Jay (Linda) Edson, grandchildren Jeremy (Renee) Edson, Joshua Edson, Ian, Lauren Cogswell. Sisters-in-law June Edson and Paula Hong. Joel is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is further survived by his ex-wives Colleen Edson and Mary Barker.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Virgil and Jack, sisters, Geraldine and Marjorie, and one sister-in-law Harriet Edson.
A Memorial Mass will be held in St Raphael Catholic Church on Saturday December 5, at 12 Noon with the Rev. Douglas LeCaptain officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Wayside Cemetery in Barron WI. Family and friends may call at the church on Saturday from 11:00 AM until the hour of services.
His family wishes to thank the staff at Parkview for their loving and compassionate care, and also his faithful friends Mark Hoege, and Don Weber.
