John F. Supple Jr.'s Obituary
John F. Supple, Jr. passed away the morning of July 1st, 2022. He was the foundation of the Supple Family, an incredibly selfless man whose greatest purpose in life was to provide for his family and to build the best life possible with his wife and oldest son Joe, who truly was his best friend. He was a smart businessman and one of the hardest workers, who instilled both traits in all three boys and their families. John F. Supple, Jr. was born to John & Lucille Supple on November 2nd, 1932 in Fond du Lac, WI. He graduated from Fond du Lac High School in 1951, and married the love of his life, Dolores Wenzler, on February 19th, 1955 in Fond du Lac at St Mary’s Church. They celebrated their 67th anniversary earlier this year. Following high school, John served two years in the Army and fought in the Korean War. After discharge, he went to work on the Soo Line Railroad as a brakeman and an engineer for two decades and then followed his passion to own his own business and opened up Shakey’s Pizza Parlor in Oshkosh in 1968 with Dolores. They proceeded to open up additional Shakey’s PIzzas in Appleton and Fond du Lac in 1970 and 1972 and were proud of the relationships they built in each community. After serving pizza, chicken, and mojos for over 30 years he retired with Dolores and they enjoyed their time watching their children expand their hospitality businesses and following their grandchildren in sports. They loved traveling and visiting their condo in Fort Myers Beach, FL, and cottage in Eagle River, WI, and all the friends they had in both places. He loved cocktail hour, getting a Supple wine pour at his sons’ restaurants, watching his grandkids & great-grandkids swim in the pool, and following Northwestern Softball, the Packers, and the Brewers.
John will be greatly missed and his memory will be cherished by his wife, Dolores, his sons Joe, John III (Doreen), and Jay (Heidi), grandchildren Jay Jr. (Bree), Kari (Mackenzie), Ashley, John IV (Amber), and Sydney, and great-grandchildren Erika, Madisyn, Coltin, Vito, Jay III, and Walker. John was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for John on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at 4 pm in St. Raphael Catholic Church 830 S. Westhaven Drive in Oshkosh with the Rev. Tom Long as celebrant. A time of visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday from 1 pm until the time of Mass. Full military honors will be accorded by the United Veterans Honor Guard immediately following the Mass. Entombment will be at Ledge View Memorial Park in Fond du Lac. In lieu of floral expressions a number of memorial funds will be established in John's name.
