Joseph A. Poklasny Sr.'s Obituary
Joseph A. Poklasny, age 84, of Oshkosh, died Monday June 17, 2013 at Park View Health Center. He was born in Oshkosh, on May 29, 1929 the son of the late Joseph and Ida Lang Poklasny. He was proud to serve his country during the Korean War from 1950-1953 in the United States Marine Corps. On July 30, 1955 Joe married June Coulahan in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oshkosh. He was the owner/operator of Poklasny Funeral Home, and in 1966 built the funeral home on South Park Ave., in 1979 he merged with Fiss & Bills Funeral Home and in 2008 was part of the construction of the new Fiss & Bills-Poklasny Funeral Home on Westhaven Drive. He was a charter member of the Oshkosh Southwest Rotary Club, the Ohio Street Civic Assoc., EAA Chapter 252, Warbirds of America, and was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
His memory will be cherished by his wife, June Poklasny, of Oshkosh, two sons, Joseph (Mary) Poklasny, Oshkosh, James (Carol) Poklasny, Oshkosh, two daughters., Patty Poklasny, Oshkosh, Mary (Joseph) Klang, four grandchildren, Andrew and Maggie Poklasny, Nick and Alex Leinweber, and one sister, Bernice Putzer. Joe is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Lorraine Bloesl, Dolores Jungwirth, Ceil Drexler, and Marie Poklasny.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday June 24, at 10:00 AM in St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church (Sacred Heart worship site) with the Rev. Matt Simonar officiating. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, with full Military Honors. Family and friends may call at Poklasny Funeral Home (870 W South Park) on Sunday from 4:00-7:00 PM, and also at the church on Monday from 9:00 AM until the hour of services.
A memorial in Joe's name will be established at a later date.
