Joyce Emma Beulen's Obituary
Joyce Emma Beulen, age 88, of Oshkosh, died Friday, January 3, of natural causes. She was born on April 26, 1936 to Martin and Bertha (Gehrke) Carpenter. In 1956 she married David Beulen in Oshkosh.
Joyce grew up on farms and went to schools in Allenville, Winneconne and Seymour. Joyce attended a Constance School of Cosmetology and was a self-employed beautician while being a stay at home mom. Later, she worked at Parkview Retirement Home and ultimately retired from Winnebago State Hospital. Our mother attended many of our youth sporting events and was our Cub Scout Den Mother, Pack 144, for several years. She loved to cook holiday meals for our family and work in her gardens, but what she really enjoyed was sewing. She and Connie made many beautiful patchwork quilts that we have as a memory of one of her talents. She got her work ethic from her childhood years on the farm, hence, she would often remind us, that were lucky not have to pick rocks from the fields during our summer vacations, as she once used to do. However, we still had our “summer chores” every morning, and she would not let us leave our yard until the afternoon. Of course, if we complained there would be the ever ready admonition “quit your complaining or I’ll give you something to complain about!” R.I.P. Mom, You Were Awesome!
Joyce is survived by three sons, Gene (Tina) of Menasha, Michael of Oshkosh, Keith (Ellen) of The
Villages FL, Sister Donna (Robert) Kalbus, of Oshkosh. She was preceded in death by her, husband, daughter, Connie Beulen, sister, Bernice Zehner-Felper, brother, Russell Carpenter, and several small pet dogs.
