Karen Patricia Thompson's Obituary
Karen P. Thompson, age 80, passed away Sunday, February 10, 2019 in Oshkosh. She was born on OCtober 16, 1938 at her home in Watertown, WI and delivered by her mother’s cousin, Dr. Hahn. She was the only child of Mr. and Mrs. George Fredrick, deceased. She attended St. Henry’s Parochial Grade School and Watertown High School. Karen married Gene Witt in October 1962 who is deceased, she then married Edward Thompson in 1990, also deceased.
Karen was employed by the local radio station WTTN for many years and was then employed at WKOW in Madison and WMIR in Lake Geneva, WI. In later years she worked for various insurance agencies. While her children were small she was a stay at home housewife. She acquired her property and casualty license while employed at the Richards Insurance Agency. She was later employed by Wisconsin General Insurance until retiring from the insurance business. Karen was also employed at Lenox Candles in the Marketing and Lab Departments until the company moved down to South Carolina.
A native of Wisconsin, she and her husband, Ed moved to Arizona in 1993. Karen remained in Arizona following the death of Edward until 2015 when she returned to Oshkosh, WI. Karen loved music, enjoyed going to movies and theater, and was always willing to go out to lunch with someone! She was a big Packers fan and loved a good Packer game party. She had a great sense of humor and an extremely kind and caring heart. To everyone who met or knew her, she was, “the sweetest person they knew.”
Karen is survived by 3 children, 2 sons; Paul Witt and Anthony (Kathy) Witt, 1 daughter; Kristina (Brian) Schlagel, all from the Oshkosh area, and 3 grandchildren; Jeffrey Witt, Sarinah Witt, and James Witt.
A Memorial Service for Karen will be held on Friday, February 15, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in Lakeview Memorial Park Chapel at 2786 Algoma Blvd Oshkosh, WI 54901 with Chaplain Kelly Vidmar officiating. A time of visitation will be held on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Inurnment will take place after the service at Lakeview Memorial Park.
The family would like to extend sincere appreciation to Dr. Gremminger and staff at Fox Valley Hematology and Oncology/ThedaCare Cancer Center, Ascension Hospice Care team, and especially to all of the kind and compassionate aides and nurses at Parkview Health Center who helped make her last weeks more comfortable.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
