Katherine June Mathe's Obituary
Katherine June (Katie) Mathe. 93, passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2022, at The Residence at Oshkosh where she resided for the past 4 years.
Born in Oshkosh on June 17, 1929, Katie was the third daughter of John and Gladys (Nichols) Klapper. On Wednesday, July 28, 1948, Katie married Anthony (Tony) Mathe at St. Vincent’s Catholic Church. Tony preceded her in death in 2019.
Together, Katie and Tony owned and operated Jack’s TV and Appliances from it’s opening in 1949 until they retired in 1996. Katie was an avid golfer and bowler, as she was a member of the T & O Alley Cats. She loved to knit, crochet, play cards and was a member of the Oshkosh Outboard Club and the St. Josaphat’s Ladies Society. Katie will always be remembered for her kindness, her devotion, and her cooking.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law Judy & Larry Hable; her son and daughter-in-law Bob & Shellie Mathe; 8 grandchildren: Cindy (Rick) McLaughlin, Andria (Craig) Schaefer, Mike (Kathryn) Hable, Anthony (Taryn) Mathe, Robert (Mabel) Mathe, Jamie (Dion Gruentzel) Mathe, Kevin Powers, and Christie (James Highley) Powers; 11 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; her childhood friend Sally Zelhofer; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death was her husband of 72 years Tony; her parents; her sister Betty Jane Klapper; her sister and brother-in-law Rosemary & Lloyd Bending; her mother & father-in-law Mary & Anton Mathe; her brothers and sisters-in-law Jack & Loretta Perry, Leo & Betty Lemiesz, and Donald (Babe) & Shirley Mathe.
Funeral services will be on Friday, October 28, 2022 at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, St. Peter’s site, with Mass beginning at 11:00am with the Rev. Jerry Pastors officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Friends and family are welcome to a visitation from 9:30am to the time of the service at the church.
