Sister Lela Mae Fenton, age 84, died on December 28, 2018 at SSM Franciscan Courts, Oshkosh, WI.
Sister Lela Mae Fenton, born on February 10, 1934, in Kildare Oklahoma, was the oldest of two children of Sylvester R. and Ida Mae (Tinker) Fenton. Lela Mae entered the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother on August 15, 1951, in Milwaukee, WI. She professed vows on August 12, 1954, celebrated her Silver Jubilee in 1979 in Milwaukee, WI, Golden and 60th Jubilee in 2002 and 2012 in Oshkosh, WI.
Sister Lela Mae’s ministries as a Sister of the Sorrowful Mother included that of teacher, Reading Specialist, Pastoral Care Chaplain, and various positions within the community. She also co-authored a book that featured community members’ experiences of life as Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother.
Sister Lela Mae’s parents, her sister Sylvia and brother-in-law Kenny Lewis preceded her in death.
Homecoming will be at 4:00 p.m. at SSM Franciscan Courts, Oshkosh, WI on Wednesday, January 2, 2019. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at SSM Franciscan Courts with Rev. John Becker officiating. Burial will take place at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Oshkosh, WI.
