Leonard L. "Chummy" Wagner's Obituary
Leonard L. "Chummy" Wagner, age 84, of Oshkosh, passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at the Bethel Home. He was born on October 27, 1928 in Oshkosh, a son of the late Frank Leroy "Sparky" and Mary Ann (Yanko) Wagner. He married the former Jacquelyn Hyer on April 15, 1950. Chummy was raised in the high-holder area of Oshkosh and was a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He graduated as an honor student from Oshkosh High School and had worked for the Kresseges 5 and 10 store, Hart Supply and then A I McDermott, retiring from there at age 70. He greatly enjoyed cribbage and sheepshead and card playing with his family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by and his memory will be cherished by his wife, Jacquelyn; three sons, Steven (Donna) of Northport, Florida, James and Michael, both of Oshkosh; two daughters, Victoria (Alberto) Sardinas of Venice, Florida, Cynthia (Lance) Schaefer of Oshkosh; a brother, Robert (Martha) of Illinois. He is further survived by 15 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many very dear friends. He was preceded in death by a son, Richard; a brother, Donald; a sister, Rose Marie Esslinger and a grandson, Mitchell Wagner.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Monday, June 3, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. in the Poklasny Funeral Home, 870 W. South Park Ave. in Oshkosh, with the Rev. Fr. William Van DeKreeke officiating. Inurnment will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held on Monday at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established.
