Leonard H. Mirkes' Obituary
Leonard H. Mirkes, age 83 of Oshkosh, passed away on Friday, November 27, 2009 in Columbia St. Mary's Hospital in Mequon. On April 5, 1926 he was born in Oshkosh, the son of Edmund and Anna (Spanbauer) Mirkes. He owned his own business the Oshkosh Sheet Metal for 13 years, then he worked for Muza Sheet Metal and then for Engebus Sheet Metal. He was a member of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church (Sacred Heart site). During World War II he served with the U.S. Navy. On October 26, 1946 he married Dorothy Sphatt in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oshkosh. She passed away on May 4, 2004.
Survivors include two sons: Daniel (Cheryl) Mirkes of Lake Geneva, WI and James (Barbara) Mirkes of Brown Deer, WI; gandchildren: Kipp (Lyndi), Brady (Kimberly) Justin, Jarrett, Scott, Eric (Ashley) Timothy and Kristin (Ryan); great-grandchildren: Jenna and Nathan; brothers: Norman Mirkes of Oshkosh and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one sister: Fran.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 1 in St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church (Sacred Heart site) on the corner of 6th Ave. and Knapp Street with Rev. Thomas Reynebeau as celebrant. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may greet the family from 4-7 p.m., Monday, November 30th in Poklasny Funeral Home with the Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m., and then from 10-11 a.m., Tuesday in the church.
