Lila Spiczenski's Obituary
Lila Elizabeth Spiczenski, age 90, passed away at her home on Saturday, December 6, 2008. She had a long and vibrant life and was ill a short time. She was resting peacefully with Christmas music playing softly and her family nearby. Lila was born on April 22, 1918 in Weyawega, a daughter of the late Adolph and Wilhemina (Glock) Radtke. She and her family lived in Metz, Wisconsin and she attended St. Johannes Kirche and school in East Bloomfield, Wisconsin. Her family spoke German at home and she was very proud that she was confirmed in German. She moved to Neenah to live with her grandmother and attend Neenah High School. During World War II she and her older sister, Enida, lived in Neenah and worked for Theda Clark Hospital and Kimberly Clark. During this time John Spiczenski , a soldier in Florida, borrowed her address from a bunkmate and they began a romantic correspondence that Lila often talked about. Lila and John were married on June 7, 1947 at St. Josaphat's Rectory in Oshkosh. They lived in Oshkosh their entire married life where they reared five children, Linda (Kurt) Wilkens of Green Lake, Karen (Robert) Hartley of Oshkosh, Mary Green of Illinois, Michael (Lynn) Spiczenski of Ohio, Diana (Leonard) Heidenreich of Illinois and her youngest brother, Wayne (Nancy) Radtke of Florida. Lila was a homemaker who worked part time during the Christmas season at Miles Kimball. Later she worked at the Columbus Club finishing her career as a Lunch Lady at Oshkosh North High School. She was community minded and gregarious. She belonged to the Women of Zion and worked on many church committees as well as being a member of the Postal Auxiliary. Lila loved to garden, read, travel, visit with relatives and friends, talk with pride about her family, and make others happy. John was the love of her life and after John's death in 1994 she continued and active life traveling with her sisters, children and grandchildren. Lila was a special person who with her smile, humor and loving acceptance and belief in others, touched the lives of many.
Her memory will be cherished by her five children and their spouses, listed above and grandchildren, Howard (Tracy) Hientzelmeier, Megan (Geoff) Schneider, Keith (Yekaterina) Hartley, Kathryn Green, Sean Green, Daniel, Andrew, and Alex Spiczenski and great-grandchildren, Matthew and Hailey Hientzelmeier. She will also be missed by her sisters, Angeline Bartel (Ken Robinson) and Adelaide Westphal and her brother, Wayne (Nancy) Radtke; her sister-in-law, Verona Radtke along with many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews, other relatives and many very dear friends, especially her life long friend, Millie Schuhart. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents, her sister, Enida Webster ; brothers, Leonard and Clarence Radtke and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Funeral services for Lila will be held on Friday, December 12, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 400 N. Sawyer Street with the Reverend Jeffrey Knoll officiating. Entombment will be with her beloved husband John in Lake View Memorial Park in Oshkosh. A time of visitation and support will be held for the Spiczenski family on Thursday evening at the Fiss & BIlls-Poklasny Funeral Home, 865 S. Westhaven Drive from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Lila's family will establish a memorial in her honor, for Lila had special charities that she donated to at this time of the year.
