Marie Catherine Esslinger's Obituary
Marie Catherine Esslinger, (Robl) 89, died in Oshkosh Tuesday, November 13, 2018. Marie was born on February 8, 1929 the daughter of Wenzel and Viola (Poeschl) Robl. Marie spent all of her life on the South side, “Hi Holder” district of Oshkosh. Marie married Ralph Esslinger on October 7, 1950. He preceded her in death on November 1, 1994.
After completing her schooling at Sacred Heart and Oshkosh High Schools she worked as a telephone operator. Always conscientious and hard working she held various secretarial positions including the Wisconsin Axel, Hrnaks and Mercury Marine. She enjoyed bartending at the Legion on the Lake. Civic minded she was a poll worker for the City of Oshkosh. She also volunteered as Docent at the EAA Air Museum and Air Shows.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, The F. O. Eagles Auxiliary and the Woman's division O. A. C. C. Oshkosh.
Through the years she spent free time playing dartball, bowling, golfing. Hickory nutting in the fall was a favorite pastime. She enjoyed her Vegas trips and treks to bingo halls from Illinois to Michigan and beyond! Friday night poker games at “the club” and cribbage league kept her busy too. And shopping, shopping anytime, anywhere! She was beautifully dressed and coiffed whenever she left the house.
Marie was a loving daughter, sister, sister-in-law and an Aunt beyond compare. Her perky attitude, ready smile and giggle and twinkling true blue eyes will always be remembered. A great friend to her nieces and nephews and their children, always generous and fun to be with.
Marie is survived by her brother Kenneth B. Robl, sisters-in-law Arlene Robl and Pat (Esslinger) Weber of Oshkosh and Ruth (wife of Harold Robl) of Black River, New York. Marie will be fondly remembered by nieces, nephews, cousins and cousins-in-law and numerous friends.
Preceding her in death were her husband, parents, brothers and their spouses. Harold Robl, Robert (Elizabeth) Robl, Eugene (Isabel) Robl and Mary Clare Robl, wife of Kenneth.
A lifelong member of Sacred Heart now Saint Jude Parish her family and friends will celebrate her life with a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday November 27 at 11:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church 519 Knapp Street. The Reverend Father Louis Golamari officiating. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. A time of visitation and support will be held for the family at the church from 9:30 until 11:00 am.
The family wants to extend special thanks to Dr. Eric Duwell and his staff for their exceptional care throughout the years. Special thanks to the excellent staff and volunteers at Bethel Home that helped make Marie's final year so happy for her. Special thanks to Vickie Carpenter for her invaluable assistance. Thanks also to Carrie Chapman and Aurora hospice care for their excellent and compassionate care during Marie's final illness.
