Marie Alvina Meidl-Welle's Obituary
Marie Alvina Lueck Meidl-Welle left this visible earth to stand before
the Father, Son and Holy Spirit on Monday, November 13, 2023, after a
sudden health crisis. She was 86 years old.
Marie was born the fourth child of the late Tony and Gert Lueck. She
was a bright girl and often called a “tomboy” for trying to keep up with
her older brothers, Carl and Cliff. Dorothy was her sister sidekick. Corky,
Bernice and Ellie followed in succession with brother Greg taking last
position in line.
Marie attended St. John’s Catholic School and later Oshkosh High
School where she played volleyball and participated in the Young
Business Leaders Club as well as Student Council.
She married Donald (Donnie) J. Meidl in 1955. They had their own
brood of children, Terry, Kathy, Chris, Billy, Barbie and Timmy, squarely
planted on Monroe Street in Oshkosh. “Grandpa Dynie,” Donald F.
Meidl, and “Uncle Pat”, James Patrick, were also a part of that full
household.
A lifelong swimming enthusiast, gardener and devout Catholic, she was
known for her fairness and forthrightness. It is worth noting that in her
gardening, she was particularly fixated on her Early Girl tomatoes! For
many years she worked as the secretary for St. Mary’s Parish in
Oshkosh until retirement in 2000. It was an easy commute to work; she
walked across the street. Marie proved herself exceptional in all things
involving administrative organization. And like her sisters, was a whiz-
bang with numbers, accounting and record keeping.
Her husband, Don, passed away in 2000. In 2002, Marie married Tom
Welle and they found comfort and companionship in 21 years together.
They relished their time to travel to 50 states, Ireland and Italy along
with family and friends who lived out of town and out of state.
Marie will be greatly missed by all of her people: husband, Tom Welle,
(and his family including Linda, Mel, Heather, Brad, Tom Junior, Laura
and Taylor.) Therese, Paul and Greta Meidl-Westegaard, Kathy, Don
and Nick Bucher, Jordan, Claudia, Jonathan and Lizzie Bucher, Chris and
Holly Meidl, Wes and Brooklyn Meidl, Jonathan Hollis and Janey
Gengel, Bill and Lisa Meidl and sons Peter, Nate and Timothy, Barb
Meidl and Doug Smith, Tim Meidl and Isabel and Jordan Meidl
Helmkamp, Colin Meidl and Eden Meidl, Clifford and Anita Lueck,
Dorothy Stahl and Kaarin, Bernice and Dick Vajgrt, John Maslowski,
Faith Lueck, Greg Lueck and Rebecca Seymour and Jessica, James Meidl
and Jennifer Meidl, along with many more beloved nieces and
nephews.
A mass in celebration of her life will be held on Saturday November 18,
2023, at Our Blessed Sacrament Church/ St. Mary’s site on Merritt
Street in Oshkosh at 11:00 AM. There will be a short visitation
beginning at 10:00 AM before the mass. The family invites you to wear
a touch of red to the festivities. It was Marie’s favorite color.
In lieu of flowers, please consider sending a donation to the Oshkosh
Area Community (food) Pantry or the Christine Ann Center (domestic
violence shelter). Respectively, they can be found at
www.oacptoday.org and www.christineann.net.
