Marilyn M Schmidt's Obituary
Marilyn M. Schmidt, 84, passed away peacefully on Monday July 1, 2024, surrounded by family at Mercy Medical Center. She was born in Oshkosh, on July 5, 1939, to Charles Seibold and Adella (Steig) Seibold. She married Fred R. Schmidt in 1959 at Sacred Heart Church in Oshkosh and they were happily married for just shy of 40 years. Together they raised four children. In her early 40s Marilyn went back to school and graduated from UW-Oshkosh with a degree in Nursing. She then worked as a RN at Winnebago Mental Health Institute for 20 years . Marilyn was a lifelong resident of Oshkosh. She was dedicated to her family, friends and her work as a registered nurse. Her kindness and compassion touched the lives of all who knew her, leaving a lasting impact on many. She volunteered with many charitable organizations and was known for making meals for those in need. She was an animal lover and cherished her many pets. Marilyn enjoyed outings with her Winnebago work friends, having dinner and manhattans at her favorite place (Jeff’s on Rugby), playing Dominoes with the girls and Sequence with the grandchildren. She loved spending time at their cozy cabin in the Northwoods, where there were many campfires, sing-alongs and fish frys. She also enjoyed traveling with her family.
Marilyn is survived by her four children; Lynn Bartlett, Catherine Leduc, David Schmidt, Karen Schmidt(Dan Weisheipl); Grandchildren, Jessica Brady (Andrew Koster), Meagan Potratz, Taylor (Tessa) Potratz, Christopher (Libby) Bartlett, Kate (Michael) Wagner, Michael Schmidt, Patrick (Emma) Schmidt, William Cuttill and 8 great grandchildren; along with two brothers, Bud (Pat) Seibold, Don (Judy) Seibold; sisters-in-law, Beverly Schmidt, Audrey (Roger) Muelemans, Debbie (Harlan) Klinge; brother-in-law, Dennis(Julie) Schmidt; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and cherished friends.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred and his parents, Lawrence and Bertha Schmidt; sister, Germaine and husband Bud Rhyner; brother, Clifford Selenka; daughter-in-law, Kim Schmidt; son-in-law, Lee Bartlett; brothers-in-law, Elmer Schmidt, Carl Schmidt, Roger Bricco; and sister-in-law, Regina Bricco.
A Mass celebrating Marilyn’s life will be held on Tuesday, July 9 at St. Raphael Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas Long officiating. Visitation begins at 9:30 am, followed by mass at 11:00 am. Burial service will take place at Sacred Heart Cemetery, at 1:45pm. In lieu of flowers, donations will be used to purchase a memorial bench or tree in Menominee Park.
