Sister Mary Florence Hengy's Obituary
Sister Mary Florence Hengy, age 90, died on May 29, 2023, at SSM Franciscan Courts in Oshkosh, WI. Sister Mary Florence, born on February 9, 1933, in Minnesota Lake, MN, was named and baptized Marianne Elizabeth. Marianne was one of five children (two brothers, John and Lawrence, and two sisters, Bernice and Donna), born to Joseph and Anna (Hacker) Hengy.
Marianne entered the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother on September 1, 1958, and professed vows on August 12, 1961, in Milwaukee, WI, receiving the name Sister Mary Florence. Sister Mary Florence celebrated her Silver Jubilee in 1986 in Milwaukee, WI. She celebrated her Golden Jubilee on September 11, 2011, and her 60th Jubilee on September 15, 2021, both in Oshkosh, WI.
As a Sister of the Sorrowful Mother, Sister Mary Florence ministered as an LPN. She ministered at St. Elizabeth Hospital & Nursing Home, Wabasha MN (1961-1983; Mother of Sorrows Convent, Milwaukee, WI; St. Joseph Hospital, Marshfield, WI; SSM Franciscan Courts, Oshkosh, WI (1989-1999); and St. Clare Convent, Broken Arrow, OK (1999-2001). She retired full time to SSM Franciscan Courts in July of 2005.
Over the years, Sister Mary Florence had been known for her warm and gentle manner which served her well in ministering to frail and elderly individuals. She loved flowers of every shape, size and color and had a special love for children. She loved it when children visited Franciscan Courts where she lived.
Sister Mary Florence was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters (Bernice Hengy and Donna Hengy) and her brothers (John Hengy and Lawrence Hengy). She is survived by nieces and nephews.
Homecoming will be at 4:00 p.m. at SSM Franciscan Courts on Sunday, June 4, 2023. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 5, 2023, at Franciscan Courts, Oshkosh, WI, with Father Bill Hower officiating. Burial will take place at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Oshkosh, WI.
