Mary Jean Poeschl's Obituary
Mary “Jean” Poeschl, age 97, of Oshkosh, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 1, 2021. She was born on March 10, 1924, daughter of James and Lorraine Gibson. On January 29, 1949, she married Melvin Poeschl of Oshkosh and they enjoyed 69 years together before Mel’s passing in 2018. They had a full life of family, friends, and travel. Jean and Mel designed and built three of their own homes and, working as business partners, they founded what is now Poeschl Printing Co.
Even though she was an only child, Jean fit right in with Mel’s eight siblings and their families. She was quite the hostess, providing us with fond memories of gatherings in our home and at our cottage on Kusel Lake with cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. She invited her children’s friends into our home and always made them feel welcomed and comfortable. Mel and Jean also formed strong bonds with their long-time Buckstaff friends and made many new friends while spending winters in their Florida home.
Jean was a member of St. Jude the Apostle Parish in Oshkosh. She treasured her faith and as a devoted mother, provided an example of how to live a faith-filled life. One of her grand-sons-in-law described her as an example of a living saint because of the way she looked at people and talked with them, her gentleness and warmth, and her humble service to her family.
Jean is survived by her daughter Susan (Robert) Knobloch, Oshkosh, son Steven Poeschl, Omro, daughter Mary (John) Whitman, Appleton; grandchildren Lynne (Carl) Fedders, Leanne (David) Schug, Kelly (Stephen) Sturm, Kristi Knobloch, Barbara (Matthew) McDonough, James Knobloch (Lindsay Dobbs), Rebecca (Michael) Marangelli, Stephanie Poeschl, Kate (Paul) Nicolaus, and Emily Whitman; fifteen great-grandchildren; sister in-law Margaret Poeschl; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by husband Melvin Poeschl; mother Lorraine Gibson; stillborn son William; stillborn great-granddaughter Anna Sturm; and many dear brothers-in law and sisters-in-law.
A time of visitation will be held at St. Jude the Apostle Parish, Sacred Heart site, 519 Knapp St. in Oshkosh, on Friday, December 10 at 11:30 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:00 pm with Fr. Louis Golamari as Celebrant. Masking is recommended. If unable to attend in
person, please join us in spirit.
