Mary Robl's Obituary
Mary Clare (Vandehey) Robl, age 85, died in Oshkosh on Friday, July 13, 2012 after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Mary was born on September 30, 1926 in Freedom, Wisconsin a daughter of the late Peter J. and Mary C. (Murphy) Vandehey. She grew up in Kimberly number nine of a family of ten. She attended Holy Name Elementary School and Kimberly High School. After high school graduation she was accepted into the United States Cadet Corps which supplied Registered Nursed to the home front and attended Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Oshkosh, graduating in 1947. While she was a student nurse and he was a patient at Mercy Hospital, she met her partner for life, Ken Robl of Oshkosh. They were married on May 28, 1949 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Kimberly. They worked together and built a firm foundation that proved to be a devoted and fruitful relationship for what became sixty-three love filled years together. Mary worked in the nursing profession throughout her life. She enjoyed all types of nursing having worked at Mercy Hospital in the nursery, the Curative Workshop with patients who suffered from Polio, Rockwell Standard and Mercury Marine as an individual nurse, and the office of Drs. Leschke and Graiewski. Mary enjoyed golfing and spent many hours playing on the courses in and around the Oshkosh area. She was an avid Packer, Milwaukee Braves and Brewers fan and she and Ken attended games when they could and rooted the teams on by TV and radio when they weren't there in person. Ken and Mary also enjoyed bingo together and all of the friends they met there. She was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, now St. Jude the Apostle Parish for sixty-three years. Her deep devotion to God was part of her until she breathed her last breath. Mary's focus in life was her husband and family. She considered her family her greatest treasure. Nana's smiles, witty comments, tasty meals and loving hugs will forever be missed. Mary is survived by her husband Kenneth B. Robl of Oshkosh. Mary and Ken have one daughter, Sally Ann and son-in-law, Mark Majewski of Oshkosh. They were blessed with two grandsons, Daniel Kenneth and his daughters, Alexandria Joy, Mary Clare and Violet Grace and their mother Pamela Dobbins and Peter James and his wife Holly Dobbins and their children, Peter John, Kendra Leigh and Peyton Elise. Mary is further remembered as a loving sister to Lenore Styvenberg of Kimberly and Eunice Sanderfoot of Darboy and sister-in-laws, Marie Robl Esslinger and Arlene Robl of Oshkosh and Ruth Robl of Black River, NY. Mary will be fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and cousins-in-law. Preceding her in death were her parents; her brothers, and their spouses, Herman (Ethel) Vandehey, Donald (Martha and Myrtle) Vandehey and Glen (Bertha) Vandehey. Her sisters and brothers-in-law Agnes (Leonard) Holzer, Lucille (Walter) Vosters, Florence (William) Gloudemans and Rose (Lee) Kroner. Brothers-in-law, Kenneth Styvenberg, Raymond Sanderfoot, Harold Robl, Robert (Elizabeth) Robl, Eugene (Isabel) Robl and Ralph Esslinger. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Mary on Friday, July 20, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Jude Parish, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, corner of Knapp and 6th Streets in Oshkosh. The Rev. Fr. Matt Simonar and Rev. Fr. William Van DeKreeke will concelebrate the Mass. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. A time of visitation and support will be held for the family on Thursday from 4p.m. until 7p.m. at the Poklasny Funeral Home, 870 W. South Park Ave. and also again at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass. A Rosary will be said at the funeral home on Thursday at 7 p.m. The family wishes that special thanks be extended to Mary's Drs., Matthew Kraemer, Thomas Klinkhammer and Dr. Cole and Patricia Jones-Cooper of Radiation Oncology along with the staff and nurses at Evergreen and Affinity Hospice, especially Susan and Jennifer for the kind and compassionate care of Mary during her illness.
