Sr. Mary Urban Harrer's Obituary
Sister Mary Urban Harrer, age 105, died on September 4, 2018, at SSM Franciscan Courts, Oshkosh, WI.
Sister Mary Urban, born on March 2, 1913, in Eibach, Bavaria, Germany, was named and baptized Otillia. She was one of twelve children: four boys and eight girls. Born to Louis and Walburga (Lenz) Harrer. Sister Mary Urban entered the congregation of the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother in Abenberg, Germany, on September 25, 1933 and came to the United States on May 9, 1935. She professed first vows on August 12, 1936 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Sister Mary Urban ministered as a registered nurse at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas from 1942 until 1967 and in numerous administrative positions at St. Clare’s Hospital in Denville, NJ from 1967 until 2003. In 2003 she transferred to volunteer ministries at St. Clare’s Hospital. She retired to SSM Franciscan Courts in October of 2007.
Sister Mary Urban was preceded in death by her parents, her four brothers, and six of her sisters. She has one living in Hilpoltstein, Germany.
Homecoming will be at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, September 9, 2018 at SSM Franciscan Courts, Oshkosh, WI. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, September 10, 2018 at SSM Franciscan Courts. Burial will take place at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Oshkosh, WI.
