Norlene M. Payne's Obituary
Norlene Marian (Sandbeck) Payne, age 84, of Oshkosh,Wisconsin passed into God’s loving embrace the morning of Saturday, June 12th with family at her side. She was born December 1st, 1936 in Omro, Wisconsin the daughter of the late Ruby and Ottar Sandbeck. Norlene graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1955. In 1955, Norlene married Richard M. Payne at St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church in Oshkosh. Norlene spent20 years as a retail clerk for Red Owl and took much pride in her service to her customers. After retiring from Red Owl she spent more years assisting her husband in his business R.M. Payne Excavating as an accountant and enjoyed plowing snow in her own Jeep with N.M. Payne on the hood. Norlene was coined the “pie-master” by everyone who ever had the privilege of enjoying her homemade pies. She was her talent with sewing as well. Norlene and Richard enjoyed growing and tending to their beautiful apple trees at their home on Indian Point Road. Gardening was one of her favorite pastimes, as well as time spent with family. She had an unmatched passion for her team, the Green Bay Packers. Norlene had a special bond and unconditional love for all of her family and friends, and her two cats Morgan and Tootsie. Norlene's soul was of the most pure, gentle, and compassionate.Her presence brought a particular warmth and comfort like no other. Her laugh and hugs will forever be remembered and dearly missed.Norlene is survived by one daughter, Debra (Bob) Knudsen;one grandson, Bobby (Lori)Knudsen; one granddaughter, Katie (Pete) Downs; four great-grandchildren, Summer,Parker, Chloe, and Evan Downs all of Oshkosh; one sister, Nona Erickson;brother-in-law, Gerald (Pat Toms) Payne; Terry (Dennis)Orseske, Brian (Lori) Payne,Lynn Payne, Glenda (Nick) Payne, and many more much loved nieces and nephews.Norlene is further survived by many cousins, relatives,and friends.Norlene was preceded in death by her husband, Richard M. Payne; mother, Ruby(Sandbeck) Stowe; father, Ottar Sandbeck; sisters,Rosalind (Pat) Buck, Geralind Hammer; brother, Jerome Sandbeck; and sister-in-law,Lee Payne.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday,June 19th, at 10:00am in St.Raphael's Catholic Church with the Rev. Kevin Ripley officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather at the church at 9:00am until the hour of services. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, alongside her husband Richard M. Payne. Norlene’s family wishes to extend a very special thank you to those who assisted in her time of need. Heartland Hospice, as well as the Aurora Hospital nurses on the 2nd floor,showed exemplary compassion and tender care for Norlene and her family members. It means more to us than you know and we cannot thank you enough for your help
