PAUL JOHN KALOUS's Obituary
Paul J Kalous, age 84, arrived September 17, 1933, born in Oshkosh to Joseph and Louise (Salzer) Kalous. His sudden and unexpected departure came on April 9, 2018 at Eastbrooke Manor. He graduated from Oshkosh High School and proudly served his country in the US Air Force. Paul was intensely proud of his service, earning awards as a crew chief on the B-47 bomber. After his time in service, he returned to Oshkosh and was employed at Rockwell International until his retirement.
Paul thrived in retirement, often commenting, “I’m not sure where I found the time to work”. He was active in classes at the YMCA, hiking and biking trails with his beloved Springer “Snick” and his friends, deer and turkey hunting, and woodworking-his massive and intricate scrollwork clocks having been showcased in the Oshkosh Gallery Walk. Paul was man of many talents and a huge heart. No one who knew PJ had to ask for his help. He would always just be there. Not even significant medical set backs in the last decade could diminish his humor or desire to be of service. Paul was a good man, a good father, and a good friend.
Left to carry on, honor, and remember are his loving kids, Laura, Karen, Mike, and John; grandkids Cassie (Brian) Daugherty, Hannah White, Caitlin Calkins, Gina Pujals, and Molly Kalous; great-grandkids Gavin Rhode, Emma Rhode, Riley Pelisek, and Ashlynn Daugherty; brother and sister-in-law Edwin and Marjorie Kalous, sisters Margaret Kinderman and Mary Ruth Stini, sisters and brothers-in-law Virginia and Ronald Thomas and Lorraine and Frank (Skip) Gams; former wife and baby momma, Francine; good friends Joe Youngbauer and Jerry Allen, who faithfully “gave him the business” until the end; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Paul was preceded in passage by his parents, brothers John and Norbert, brothers-in-law Robert Kinderman and William Stini, nephew Paul Gams, and, of course, his beloved Snickers.
Paul’s family would like to express love, admiration, and deepest heartfelt gratitude to Linda Carlson, Heather, and all the earthly angels of love, good humor, and compassion at Eastbrooke Manor in Oshkosh, past and present, for treating our dad with the utmost kindness, laughter, and dignity, ever creating new adventures for him, for the better part of a decade. We couldn’t possibly appreciate them more! Thanks also to the beautiful souls of Heartland Hospice.
No public services are planned, as per Paul’s request. People who knew him should understand. A private family gathering will take place at a later time.
We find peace in the belief that Dad is again hiking the trails with Snick at his side, free of all physical encumbrances, ready to lend a hand whenever we may need it. Never to be forgotten, until we’re together again. Until then, play ‘er cool. Sounds like a winner!
