Peggy Darleen Allen

Peggy Darleen Allen entered into eternal life on August 2nd, 2022, surrounded by her husband and children. Peggy was born in Oshkosh on July 31st, 1944, the youngest of James Sr. and Hazel Tritt’s six children. She graduated from Omro High School in 1962. Her class recently held their 60th reunion and presented Eugene with sentiments about Peggy. Peggy grew up on the family farm, where she learned the value of hard work. She and Eugene were high school sweethearts and Peggy was a cheerleader for Eugene’s basketball team. Though she was barely taller than the megaphone, Eugene remembers hearing her yell, “Go Eug!” from across the court. The couple married on June 20, 1964, at the First Presbyterian Church in Omro. Their love and enthusiasm for one another never waned throughout their 58 years of marriage. The depth of their devotion was especially prevalent during the last 10 years, with Eugene caring for Peggy at home as her health declined. In 1966, they welcomed their first child, Gene, and 11 months later, their second child, Scott, was born. The boys were two peas in a pod and sure kept their mother on her toes! Eleven years later, daughter Kari joined the family. Over the years, Peggy held a variety of jobs, but her most cherished role was that of Mother. She was undeniably the best caregiver her family could ask for. Peggy loved to cook and bake. Her meals always included several courses and no one left her table hungry. Her desserts were outstanding and some of our favorites were her chocolate chip bars, ho-ho cake, and fruit pies featuring a hard-to-duplicate homemade crust! Peggy was known for keeping a very neat and clean house, and she enjoyed raising her family in the home she and Eugene built in the woods outside of Omro. She was also known for her love of nature and birds which she passed down to her children. During deer hunting season, Peggy could be found driving the woods for the boys or watching the lane from the house. In the warmer months, she and Eugene would go for rides in the Corvette. They enjoyed years of traveling – including motorcycle trips – with many friends and family members, along with time spent golfing, playing cribbage, and dominoes. Over the years, Peggy was an ambitious gal who held a variety of jobs. As a teenager, she worked summers packing pickles in Ripon with her best friend Jean. Other work places included Standard Kollsman, E.R. Wagner, Kester’s, The Martin House, Oshkosh Truck, and lastly, the cafeteria at Mercy Medical Center. Peggy truly lived by the golden rule and taught her children to do the same. She was humble and kind, with a bit of quick wit, and her smile and laugh were pure joy. What brings our family great comfort during this time is the thought of Peggy’s reunion with her son Gene, who died almost 30 years ago. Gene used to greet her with a bear hug by lifting her off her feet and spinning her around – and that’s what we envisioned happening as she entered the gates of Heaven. As Eugene noted upon her death, “I now have two very sad children – and another who is very happy.” Peggy fought a long, hard battle against a type of dementia called Primary Progressive Aphasia. We are thankful she is at peace, but her loss has left an irreplaceable void in our hearts. Many thanks to Peggy’s hospice caregivers, Jenny RN and Joy CNA. Their compassionate care helped keep her home until the end, preserving her dignity. We’re also extremely grateful for those who sat with Peggy over the years, dropped off meals, and prayed for our family. In addition to her loving husband, Peggy is survived by her son, Scott Allen (Janet Coleman) of Omro, and her daughter and son-in-law, Kari and Mike Nigl of Winneconne. Her grandchildren: Abby and Anna Allen, and Will and Claire Nigl. Her sisters, Phyllis Silverthorn and Faye Hoffman (Don Harness), and her brother Darrell Tritt (Marianne Johnson). She is further survived by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Carolyn Tritt, Norie Tritt, Gerald and Mary Allen, James and Sue Allen, Wright and Shirley Allen, Jim and Florence Haedt. And many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her son, Gene, her parents, her father-in-law and mother in-law William and Florence Allen, her brothers, Harland and James Tritt Jr. Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Clayton Jensen, Art Hoffman, Bernie Silverthorn, and Judy Tritt. Visitation will be held Monday, August 8th, 3pm, at Fiss & Bills Funeral Home, 865 S. Westhaven Dr, Oshkosh. There will be a funeral service immediately following at 5:30pm. Committal service will be on Tuesday August 9th at 10am at The Oak Hill Cemetery in Poygan. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
