P.Vivivian DuPrey's Obituary
P. Vivian DuPrey, age 92, of Oshkosh, died peacefully on January 29, 2014 after an illness of several months. She was born in Escondido, California to the late Edward and Prudence (Browne) Boylan on March 30 , 1921. Vivian was a graduate of Wrightstown High School, Outagamie Normal School and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. She married Robert J. DuPrey in St. John’s Church in Morrison on August 17, 1940. Winning prizes at the county fair for her penmanship, it was inevitable that she would become a teacher. Her career began in the Brown County rural schools, continued in the Winnebago County rural schools (Knott, Maple, Oakwood and Sunset). It culminated in the Winneconne Public Schools when she retired in 1981. Vivian said, “I had the perfect job”. The sincere statement was verified by teachers, families and students who maintained contact throughout the years. She cherished their visits and greetings. Vivian enjoyed restaurants and travel. Proud of her Irish heritage, a favorite memory was her trip to Ireland. She was a faithful member of St. Jude the Apostle Parish, Sacred Heart Catholic Church for over 60 years. She also belonged to WEAC-Retired, WCREA, and Rockwell Lunch Retired Group.
She is survived by and her memory will be cherished by a daughter, Meredith A. DuPrey; a son, John E. (Carla) DuPrey; two very loved grandsons, Christopher J. (Angie) DuPrey and Michael R. (Wendy) DuPrey; two wonderful great-grandchidren, Parker Robert DuPrey and Avery Rose DuPrey; special Godchild, Jerry Boylan. She is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many very dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents; an infant sister, Anna Boylan; sister, Mary (William) Kennedy; sister, Florence (Mark) VandeHey; brother, James (Bernice) Boylan and a special Godchild, Cheryl VandeHey Jakl.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Vivian on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Jude the Apostle, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, corner of Knapp and 6th Streets in Oshkosh. The Rev. Fr. William VandeKreeke will celebrate the Mass. A time of visitation will be held at the Poklasny Funeral Home, 870 W. South Park Avenue on Monday, February 3, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A parish prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will also continue Tuesday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Entombment will be in Lake View Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established by the family. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Parkview Health Center Hospice Care for their compassion and support, and also to Vivian’s friends for their visits, calls, and cards.
