Reuben J. Drexler's Obituary
Reuben J. Drexler, age 94, of Oshkosh, passed away peacefully at his home with his family at his side on Monday, October 6, 2014. He was born on March 10, 1920 in Oshkosh a son of the late John and Anna (Raab) Drexler. Reuben served his country during WW II in the US Army in the South Pacific and was part of the Red Arrow 127th Infantry Division. He also served in the CCC at age 17. Reuben met the love of his life at a dance at the Eagle’s Ballroom on September 13, 1940, Eleanor Bahr, they married on August 28, 1945. Reuben had worked for Muza Sheet Metal and Muza Metal Products for many years retiring in 1984. He greatly enjoyed crossword puzzles and was very strongly devoted to his church and faith at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, having served the church in many capacities over the years. He also volunteered at Bethel Home for many years and enjoyed time spent at the trailer at Little Silver Lake. Reuben was a very loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed teasing the kids and time spent with his family. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by and his memory will be cherished by his wife of 69 years, Eleanor; three sons, Larry (Mary) of Shreveport, LA, Steve (Jill) of Baraboo, WI, John (Karen) of Greenfield, WI; a daughter, Chris (Ron) Hasselbacher of Neenah; seven grandchildren, Brian, Eric, Todd, Connor, Rian, Elizabeth and Sam; two step-grandchildren, Maurica and Maggie; a great-grandson, Colin; nieces and nephews, Sally, Mike, Ann Marie, Bobbie and Russell; a sister-in-law, Jean Wohldt. He is further survived by other relatives and many very dear friends. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Leroy, John Jr., and Delmar; a sister, Nancy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Reuben on Friday, October 10, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Jude Parish, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, corner of 6th and Knapp Streets in Oshkosh. The Rev. Matt Simonar as celebrant. A time of visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass. Burial with full military honors will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. A memorial fund will be established. I have loved, please do not let the thought of me be sad. “Night-night” see you in Heaven. “He was a good guy”
