Richard E. "Dick" Brickham's Obituary
Richard E. "Dick" Brickham, age 88, of Oshkosh, passed away at his home on Monday, October 15, 2012. He was born on April 17, 1924 in Oshkosh, a son of the late William and Alma (Gehring) Brickham. Richard married his High School sweetheart, Florence E. Ebersberger on July 12, 1947, they both attended Oshkosh High School. At the age of 18 Richard served in the United States Army in the South Pacific during WW II. He served in Guadalcanal, Boganville, and the Phillipine Islands for three years. He was awarded the Sharpshooters medal, 7 Overseas Bars, a Bronze Battle Star, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, Phillipine Liberation Ribbon. He served as a truck driver and 4.2 mortar gunner and was honorably discharged in Dec. 1945 at the rank of Corporal. Richard had worked for the Oshkosh Northwestern and also the Miles Flower Co. when a teenager and then worked for Universal Foundry of Oshkosh for 42 years until he retired in 1960. He then worked for Ideal Products for two years. He was a member of St. Jude Parish, Sacred Heart Catholic Church and served his church as an usher for many years. He greatly enjoyed and loved golfing and bowling with his friends and will also be remembered as a pretty good horseshoe thrower. He is survived by and his memory will be cherished by his wife Florence of 65 years, two sons, Richard "Rick" (Jane) of Omro; and Joseph "Joe" (Shirley) of Millinocket, Maine; grandchildren, Charles Brickham of Portsmouth, N.H., Lisa (Darren) Laabs of Winneconne, Scott (Kristy) O'Connell of Oshkosh, Michelle Brickham of Oshkosh and four great-grandchildren, Katie, Hunter and Elizabeth Laabs, of Winneconne and Molly O'Connell, Oshkosh. He is further survived by many wonderful nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Peter; his parents and a brother, Harrison Brickham. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Richard on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Jude Parish, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, corner of 6th Avenue and Knapp St. in Oshkosh. The Rev. William Van DeKreeke will celebrate. A time of visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Inurnment will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery at a later date. A memorial fund will be established.
