Richard A. Kaufmann Sr.'s Obituary
Richard Allen "Dick" Kaufmann Sr., age 70, of Oshkosh, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Monday, May 23, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center. He was born on November 4, 1942 in Oshkosh a son of the late Jacob A. and Genevieve Mary (Dlugolenski) Kaufmann. Dick served his country in the US Navy as a Naval Aviator. He married the former Donna Jean Kettering on April 30, 1966. He was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was employed as a Commercial Airline Pilot for United Airlines for over 25 years. He greatly enjoyed golfing, bowling, reading, crossword puzzles, hunting, boating, the Green Bay Packers, time spent with family and friends and of course a few good manhattans or PBR'S, as far as beverage choices.
He is survived by and his memory will be cherished by his wife of 47 years, Donna; three sons, Richard Allen Jr.(Barbara), of St. Charles, IL, Kevin Michael of Oshkosh, Kurt Matthew (Marisa) of North Aurora, IL; two daughters, Kristine Marie (Paul) Gereau of Oshkosh, and Kimberly Jean (Duane) Knoedler of Owasso, Oklahoma; a brother, Paul (Amy) Kaufmann of Rio, WI; ten grandchildren, Richard III, Madison, Rylie, Aspen, Max, Jack, Annika, Caleb, Carsen, and Caden. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many very dear friends. He was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Lee, and a grandson, Kyle John.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Richard on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Jude Parish, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, corner of Knapp and 6th Streets in Oshkosh. The Rev. Fr. Matt Simonar will celebrate the Mass. Burial with full military honors will follow in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. A time of visitation and support will be held for the Kaufmann family at the Fiss & Bills-Poklasny Funeral Home, 865 S. Westhaven Dr. on Wednesday, (TONIGHT) from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and also at the church only on Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass. There will be a parish prayer service held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established. The family would like to extend their thanks to Dr. Karen Gremminger and her entire oncology staff, and the staff of 1st and 5th floors of Mercy Medical Center for the exceptional care and concern that was given to Dick during his illness.
