Ricky W. Mathias' Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Ricky ‘Rick’ William Mathias announce his sudden passing, at the age of 65, on Tuesday, November 9, 2021. He left us a lot sooner than any of us thought his stubborn butt would have.
Rick was born on February 12, 1956 to William and Irene Mathias, in Garrison, ND. According to his big sister Kass, he was “a crying, squealing little brat that looked like Porky Pig”.
Most of us will remember him for his quick wit and easy sarcasm that knew no boundaries. He was well known for his inappropriate humor and had very little shame in his game. Rick was a prankster; it was not unheard of to find a slew of empty beer cans in your cupboard’s months after a visit from him. Rick attended Lourdes Academy for High School, where he performed in the annual spring stage production, “Guys and Dolls”. This set the stage for many years of being the class clown and life of the party. Rick proudly worked at Oshkosh Corporation for 35 years and retired in 2017. He loved hunting, fishing, and watching his beloved Packers and Badgers. He was an avid antique collector and gun enthusiast. One of his favorite past times was to target shoot at the Van Dyne Sportsmens Club.Rick was preceded in death by his parents, William and Irene Mathias, brothers James and Robert Mathias, sisters Kathy Ziehm and Sharon Fisher, nieces Tina and Alyssa, and nephew Billy.
Rick leaves behind nephews Randy Mathias, Chris Mathias, Rob Stookey, Jason Ziehm, Zachary Fisher, and nieces Tammie Whitty and Heather Schultz. He will also be fondly remembered by his partner in crime, Nicholas Quast Jr, whom he lovingly called Slick, his best friend, sister from another mister, Paula Schmitz, and special friend Tamie Childers. As well as many great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
An informal visitation will be held from 5 to 7pm on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at Fiss & Bills-Poklasny Funeral Home 865 S. Westhaven Dr. Oshkosh. Please show your Wisconsin pride by wearing your favorite Packer or Badger attire. Since Rick was never one to pass up a cold Bud Light, one will be available during the visitation so we can all toast and roast our favorite guy.
After the visitation, Rick would love to buy one last round for all the people that put up with him and loved him all these years, meet us ata bar to be determined for “One More”.
All jokes aside, Rick was a great friend, son, brother, and uncle, and will be sorely missed.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Ricks name to Van Dyne Sportsmen’s Club.
