Robert E Hughes' Obituary
Robert E. Hughes, age 90, of Oshkosh, passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at his home in the care of loved ones. He was born in Oshkosh on November 16, 1932, the son of William and Bertha Anderson Hughes. Bob married Lois Stadler of Oshkosh on April 23, 1955. He was preceded in death by his wife and son, Stevie.
Until the time of his retirement Bob was the second generation owner/operator of Hughes’ Home Maid Chocolates, LTD in Oshkosh. He and his wife Lois sacrificed and worked countless hours to help build the business to what it is today. Even after Bob retired from candy making, he enjoyed helping out by being the doorman at Hughes’ during the Christmas busy season…he “directed traffic” making sure everyone got in and out in an efficient and safe manner. He loved seeing the legacy of Hughes’ Chocolates continue. And, he never grew tired of eating those chocolates!
Bob enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, country music, faithfully riding his bicycle to stay in shape, and planting and tending flowers. Each year his backyard was an array of gorgeous blooms.
Bob is survived by two sons, Tom (Pauline) Hughes of Oshkosh, Bill (Maggie) Hughes, Madison, four grandchildren: Bret Hughes, Oshkosh, Rachel (Bret)
Lugo, Fairfax, VA, Michael (Audra) Hughes, Milwaukee, and Amanda (Alex) Hagen, Madison. Bob is further survived by eight great-grandchildren and sister-in-law Carol Stadler of Oshkosh.
In keeping with Bob’s wishes, a private family service was held.
