Robert John Schuster's Obituary
On September 24th Robert John Schuster passed away peacefully with family by his side at St. Elizabeth Hospital. He was born March 20, 1948 in Fort Belvoir, Virginia to Alois and Eleanore (Drinka) Schuster. Growing up in an army family, he attended various elementary schools but finished as valedictorian at Lourdes High School. Pursuing higher education, he graduated with highest honors from the University of Madison and then did graduate work at UCLA.
Bob's thirst for knowledge didn't stop with his formal education. He was a voracious reader; the subject matter ranged from serious classical literature to modern science fiction, from philosophy to historical accounts. Although he may not have finished it, he was thrilled to start Stephen King's latest novel. His love of story lines continued into a love of film and documentaries, from Charlie Chaplin to Ken Burns to the early comedy series of television to modern day science fiction and thrillers. He would engage in an enlightened conversation on just about any subject matter with anyone who had the time.
Bob was also passionate about music, particularly classical. One of his favorite conductors was Leonard Bernstein. As for sports, he was a life long Los Angeles Dodgers fan.
Without a doubt, the thing he was most proud of was his day trading. That job which covered more than half his life allowed him to pursue his other passions He even got the closing numbers on September 22nd.
Robert was preceded in death by parents. He is survived by his brother Thomas (Karen) Schuster, his sister, Margaret Benesh and his niece Anneliese Benesh and cousins.
Bob's family would like to give a huge thanks to the whole team of St. Elizabeth Hospital, from those we met to those we never saw. We thank them for their compassionate, professional care of Bob and for the support and kindness they extended to his family. We would also like to thank OSMS in Oshkosh and Appleton. Finally, we would like to thank Compassus hospice program.
Funeral services will be held at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church (St. Vincent site) on Saturday, September 30th. The Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00AM with Rev. Louis Golamari officiating. Family and friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10:00AM until the hour of the services.
