Rosemarie Ruth Pitz's Obituary
Rosemarie Ruth Pitz, age 84, of Oshkosh, passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2017. She was born on July 24, 1932 the eldest of five children born to the late Gilbert M. and Cecilia G. (Cannon) Pitz. She was educated in Oshkosh Schools graduating from Oshkosh High School in 1950 and the College of St. Theresa of Winona, Minnesota with a B.S. Degree in nursing. Entered the US Navy in April of 1959 and permanently retired from the Navy in August of 1975 having been stationed at US Naval Hospitals in Jacksonville, Florida, Rota, Spain, Great Lakes, Illinois, Bethesda, Maryland, Portsmuth, Virginia and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the Dispensary at the Philadelphia Pennsylvania Naval Shipyard. Rosemarie was a member of the Oshkosh Patriotic Council of which she had served as president for six years during which time she was responsible for organizing the Oshkosh Memorial Day Procession. She was a member of many organizations including the DAV chapter 17, Post 70 of the American Legion, Post 70 of VVA, Chapter 437 of Waves (Women of Sea Services) Unit 143, MOAA (Military Officers Association of America), APRL (Ametuer Radio Relay League). During retirement years she was active in amateur radio (HAM radio) being station control operator of radio station aboard Queen Mary W6R) Long Beach, California. For several years she assisted with Long Beach marathons California Fires and 1984 Olympics as well as sailing regattas communication. Rosemarie became active in numerous veteran's organizations following her return to WI following her father's death. Besides being Adjutant, Treasurer and Service Officer of the DAV Local Chapter 17 for a number of years she was also the Commander of the Winnebago County American Legion County Council for six years and has been an active member of the United Veterans Honor Guard. She is survived by a brother, Bernard Pitz and sisters, Elizabeth and Kathy C. Pitz, all of Oshkosh; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and many very dear friends. She was preceded in death by a brother, August G. Pitz. Having been a member of Most Blessed Sacrament Parish, St. Marys Catholic Church in Oshkosh, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the church a time of visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the time of mass. Burial with full military honors will be in Riverside Catholic Cemetery.
