Roy Bartel's Obituary
Roy Deppe Bartel, age 97, of Oshkosh, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, February 13th at Century Oaks. He was born January 29, 1917 in the little town of Orihula, WI to the late Herman Bartel and Anna Deppe Bartel.
Roy was married to Lillian Bartel on January 22, 1944. She proceeded him in death in 2008. Roy met Lillian while both were working for Miles Kimball. Roy and Lillian founded Advertising Letter Service in 1947 dba (ALS Printing). Roy continued to work every day until his illness in 2013. He was proud to have three generations as part of ALS Printing (Roy, son Bruce, granddaughter Heather Bartel Winscher). Working was one of Roy's lifes pleasures.
Roy's hobbies included traveling, fishing, boating, gardening, playing cards and occasional trips to casinos.
One of Roy's passions was the Oshkosh Noon Optimist Club which he recently was honored as being a 65 Year Charter member. He live the Optimist Creed which is to make optimism a part of your life.
He is survived by his daughters Carleen (Bill) Christianson, Carol (Ted) Zabel and son Bruce (Mary) Bartel. Ten grandchildren-Erik Christianson, Nick Zabel, Jim (Amy) Zabel, Ingrid Christianson, Doug (Wendy) Zabel, Betty Christianson, Sarah Zabel, Heather (Jeremiah) Bartel Winscher, Heidi Bartel and Brittany Bartel. Roy is also survived by five great-grandchildren-Sydney Zabel, Olivia Zabel, Presley Zabel, Sophia Zabel and Mitchell Zabel. He was preceded in death by the love of his life Lillian, his parents and numerous aunts and uncles.
Funeral services for Roy will be held in Fiss & Bills Funeral Home (865 S Westhaven) on Monday February 17, at 11:00 AM with Deacon John Ingala officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 9:00 AM until the hour of services.
A very special thanks to the exceptional staff at Century Oaks for their wonderful compassionate care. The staff made Roy always feel special and well cared for.
In lieu of flowers a memorial in Roy's name will be established.
