Sister Alberta Frances McBride's Obituary
Sister Alberta Frances McBride, 91 years old, died on July 1, 2026 at Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother Franciscan Courts in Oshkosh, WI.
Sister Alberta was welcomed into her loving family in 1934 by her mother, Henrietta Welling McBride and her father, Albert Francis McBride and two older sisters and later helped to welcome two more sisters and a brother.
Sister Alberta joined the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother in 1952 after graduating from high school. She made first vows in 1955.
As a Sister she had many diverse ministries: taught in elementary and high schools as well as at the Milwaukee Area Technical College and was a principal of two elementary schools. Sister Alberta worked both in SSM vocation and initial formation ministries as well as a co-director of the Milwaukee SSM Associates. In addition, she worked at the Justice and Peace Center in Milwaukee, Wis., served on the Women’s Commission for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee and was a very active member of the Lumen Christi Parish in Thiensville, Wis., serving as a lector at Mass, distributing Communion and singing in the parish choir.
Her greatest happiness has been to know that she was serving the Lord and that she has made a difference in the lives of others. Sister Alberta retired to SSM Franciscan Courts in April of 2022 and appreciated the beauty of each day and the good health care that she received.
Sister Alberta was proceeded in death by her parents, Henrietta and Albert, her sisters Elaine Hansen and Rita Bogart and her brother Charles McBride. Sister is survived by two sisters, Irene Zawada and Verna Rosauar along with many nieces and nephews.
Homecoming will be at 4:00 p.m. at SSM Franciscan Courts on Thursday, July 9, 2026. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 10, 2026 at SSM Franciscan Courts, Oshkosh, WI with Rev. Thomas Long officiating. Burial will take place at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Oshkosh, WI.
