Sister M. Hyacintha Goetz's Obituary
Sister M. Hyacintha Goetz was born on September 2, 1921 to parents Johann and Barbara (Weidinger) Goetz in Waltenhofen, Bayern, Germany. She was given the name Anna Goetz and was one of nine children. She entered the community of the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother on February 6, 1947 in Abenberg, Germany. On March 19, 1949 she became a novice and was given the name Mary Hyacintha. She professed her First Vows on August 12, 1950 in Milwaukee, WI; made Final Vows on August 12, 1955. She celebrated her Silver Jubilee on August 11, 1975; her Golden Jubilee on September 17, 2000; and her 60th Jubilee on June 6, 2010. Sister Hyacintha served at Mercy Hospital in Oshkosh, WI in the food service department at various times as a cook, baker, and in the cafeteria from 1950-1966. After that she was sent in 1966 to Mother of Sorrows Motherhouse in Milwaukee, WI to supervise the kitchen and as the main cook until the motherhouse was closed in 1989 and all the sisters there moved to the new Franciscan Courts Retirement Center in Oshkosh, WI. There Sister Hyacintha was the cook for two years. Afterwards, she took care of the houseplants inside, and did flower and vegetable gardening outside. Sister Hyacintha has been well known for her expert gardening and plant care. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday March 11, 2015 at 10am at the Franciscan Court Chapel at 815 S. Westhaven Drive. Oshkosh, WI 54904. Father William Hower will be the celebrant. Homecoming will take place in the chapel on Tuesday March 10, 2015 at 4pm.
