Sister Mary Sebastiana Langecker's Obituary
Sister Mary Sebastiana Langecker, age 90 years, died on December 17, 2021, at SSM Franciscan Courts, Oshkosh, WI.
Sister Mary Sebastiana, born on October 4,1931, in Vogelthal, Germany, was named and baptized Anna. She was one of eight children born to August and Kreszentia (Neger) Langecker. Her parents belonged to the Third Order of St. Francis making the birth of Sister on the Feast of St. Francis very special. She had five sisters and two brothers. Anna entered the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother in Abenberg, Germany on October 26, 1949. She professed her first vows in Abenberg on August 12, 1952 and that year on September 13, 1952 she arrived in the United States. She professed her Final Vows on August 12, 1957.
Sister received her Food Service education through Fontbonne College
Sister Mary Sebastiana ministered in the dietary departments in various positions in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Wabasha, MN (1954-1957); St. Francis Hospital (Via Christi Health), Wichita, KS (1958 and 1961-2000); and St. Ann Hospital, Truth or Consequences, NM (1958-1961). She also ministered as a Patient Relations Supervisor at St. Francis Regional Medical Center, Wichita, KS (1979-2000). Sister retired in January 2000 to Our Lady of Sorrows Convent in Broken Arrow, OK and moved to SSM Franciscan Courts, Oshkosh, WI in January 2010.
Sister left an indelible mark as an ambassador, a comforter and a woman of faith who brought a healing touch to the patients. She was known as “Sister Hospitality”. Her extensive correspondence will truly be missed. She received the St. Francis Award in 1988 from St. Francis Regional Medical Center, Wichita, KS for her demonstration of the values and spirit of St. Francis of Assisi.
Sister Mary Sebastiana was preceded in death by her parents, her five sisters: Sr. M. Amabilis Langecker, SSM; Sr. M. Christa Langecker, SSM; Katharina Dinfelder; Krerszenz Schober; Franziska Hiltner, and one brother August Langecker. Her brother Franz Langecker, died recently in Toeging, Germany.
Homecoming will be at 4:00 p.m. at SSM Franciscan Courts on Tuesday, December 21, 2021. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30am on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at SSM Franciscan Courts, Oshkosh, WI with Father Bill Hower officiating. Burial will take place at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Oshkosh, WI.
