Stanley J. Fisher's Obituary
Stanley Joseph Fisher, age 93, of Oshkosh, passed away on March 3, 2014. He was born September 26, 1920 in the Town of Rushford, Wisconsin. Stanley married Betty Lou Washburn on March 19, 1949 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Omro, Wisconsin. Stan had a successful military career. He entered the Army Air Corp in 1940 as an enlisted man working as a supply clerk, in military police, and finally as a personnel clerk. During WW II he was stationed in Italy, France, Germany and England and was awarded several medals including 7 Bronze Stars. In 1958 he was promoted to the rank of Captain as a Munitions Officer. In 1959 he was sent to Bitburg, Germany as a remote assignment. Nine months later, the family joined him and lived in Germany for two more years. In 1962 Stan was assigned to a military base in Kansas City, MO, where he finished his career. He retired in 1965 with the rank of Major. After his retirement from the Military, Stanley moved his family back to the Oshkosh area where he worked for 10 years as the Director of Personnel at Parkview Health Care Center. When he retired from all employment, he and his wife purchased a motor home and traveled around the United States visiting many areas of the country. Stan was a charter member of St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Oshkosh and helped with the preparation of the Lenten Fish Fries. For many years Stan and Betty traveled weekly to the Salvatorian Mission in New Holstein helping to repack donated items to be sent overseas to missions.
Stan is survived by his six children, Greg (Margaret) of Allen, Texas; Teresa (Darrell) Schilling of Omro, Debora of Wichita, Kansas, Annette (Dusty) Conley of Crandon,Wisconsin, Angela (Phil) Hill of Oshkosh and Alan of Oshkosh; thirteen grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren, and numerous extended family members. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty; a daughter, Marie Carol; parents, Clarence and Carrie Fisher; a brother, Roy Fisher; sisters, Vivian Ceman, Jeanette Fisher and Ethelyn Carney.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Stan on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church, 830 S. Westhaven Dr. in Oshkosh. The Rev. Doug LeCaptain will celebrate the Mass. A time of visitation will be held at the church on Thursday, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Full military honors will follow the Mass at church. Entombment will be in Lake View Memorial Park. A luncheon will also be served following the Mass. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with the Salvatorian Missions, care of Brother Regis Fust, S.D.S., Missions Warehouse, New Holstein, Wisconsin 53061; 920-898-4736. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Fiss & Bills-Poklasny Funeral Homes of Oshkosh.
