Steve Robert Langkau's Obituary
Steve Robert Langkau, age 88, of Oshkosh, died on Sunday, August 10, 2014 at Oakwood Manor. Steve was born on February 25 , 1926 in Oshkosh, the son of the late Stephan T. and Nellie (Showers) Langkau. He proudly served his country in the US Navy during WW II and the family often laughed that he was a gunners mate on a ship that had no guns. He married the former Marcella Sphatt on April 3, 1948 and they celebrated 50 years of marriage just prior to her death in 1988. Steve had worked for the City of Oshkosh as Superintendent of the Sanitation Division. His interests were appliance and bike repair, gardening, stamp collecting, history and genealogy. He loved working on his computer and penned a number of history and genealogy books, as well as collections of his favorite jokes which he would print and distribute, creating many smiles along the way.
Steve is survived by and his memory will be cherished by sons, Michael and David of Oshkosh; daughters, Julie (David) Schmude, of Oshkosh, Barb Langkau of Pewaukee and Laura (David) Ambroso of Omro. He is also survived by and will be greatly missed by his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, other relatives and many very dear friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marcella and a granddaughter, Stephanie Schmude Howard.
Funeral services for Steve will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. in the Fiss & Bills-Poklasny Funeral Home, 865 S. Westhaven Dr. in Oshkosh. Full military honors will follow the service. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 3 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to the charity of one’s choice in Steve’s memory.
