Services: A memorial mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday April 11, 2014 at 10:30am at (Most Blessed Sacrament Parish (St. Peter's Church 449 High Ave. Oshkosh, WI 54901). Father Jim Jugenheimer will be the celebrant.
Visitation: A visitation will be held on Friday April 11, 2014 at the church from 9am until the time of Mass.
Therese (Tesse) A. Sphatt, 88], passed away peacefully on April 5, 2014. She was born in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin on August 22, 1925. She was the 13th of 14 children born to Leo and Francis Neuman.
Therese Agnes attended elementary school at St. Peterfs Catholic School in Beaver Dam and graduated from Beaver Dam High School in 1943. She attended Mercy School of Nursing in Oshkosh, but left after the first year for health reasons. Upon returning to Beaver Dam she worked as a meter reader during World War II.
On June 26, 1948 Therese married Richard F. Sphatt and moved to Oshkosh, Wisconsin where they raised five children. She taught religion to the deaf community at the Newman Center for five years. At age 56, she returned to school to earn a C.N.A. certification from Fox Valley Technical School. She worked part time as a private duty aide tending to the elderly and handicapped. Tesse enjoyed sewing, upholstering, baking and visiting the elderly in nursing homes.
Therese was a member of the Most Blessed Sacrament Church and a member of the Senior Group, Small Community Bible Group since Renew, Quilting Group. She was a former volunteer at Father Carrfs Place.
Therese was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years on December 20, 2002. Therese is survived by five children: Thomas (Sandy), The Villages, FL, Sue Tappy, Oshkosh, WI, Gerald (Paulette), Oregon, WI, Ann OfBryan, Port St. Lucie, FL, and Martin (Karen) Sphatt, Indianapolis, IN. She is further survived by many special grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and thirteen brothers and sisters: Carl, Jerry, Alois, Richard, Leo Jr., Bobby, Sylvia, Ruth, Herbert, Bernard, Sr. Jean Marie Neuman SSND, Francis (Butch), Norma and Anna.
Memorials: Memorial contributions in Theresefs name may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi Retirement Fund or the Retired Sisters of the School Sisters of Notre Dame.
