Wanda Niles' Obituary
Wanda M. Niles, age 76, of Oshkosh, was born on June 27, 1933 in Monroe, Wisconsin a daughter of Archibald and Elda Gibbons. She was the youngest of six brothers and a sister. After graduating from high school she worked in Madison until she married Charles "Chuck" Niles on November 24, 1955 in Monroe, WI on Thanksgiving Day. Over the years the couple added three children to their union. The first two were born in Manitowoc, WI and the third, in Muskegon, MI. The family soon returned to the Milwaukee, WI area in the mid 1960's. Wanda worked in the healthcare field after her youngest child started school. She worked as a receptionist and and loved every minute of it. She, unlike many people, enjoyed Monday mornings. Her job duties and her relationships with her co-workers and long-time employer was something she looked forward to.
Wanda and Chuck's marriage was meant to be. They shared many interests including strong family connections, times spent with friends, travel, tail-gaiting at Badger games, and a variety of sporting events, including, of course, the Green Bay Packers of which Wanda was the biggest and loudest Irish Packer fan of all time. She also loved gardening, cooking, decorating her home, and collecting a lot of "stuff": she never could pass by a rummage or estate sale.
To Wanda, family and friends were everything. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and enjoyed many deep friendships. Her memory will be cherished by her husband of 54 years, Chuck, and their three children: Sharon (Darrel) Moon, Michael (Gisselle) Niles, and Suzy (Thom) Ferris. And not ever to be forgotten, seven grandchildren: Stephanie, Jesse, Chelsea, Michael, Tyler, Gabriella, and Marcus. Wanda is survived also by two brothers, Bernard (Ruth) Gibbons of Monroe, WI and Tom (Mary) Gibbons of Punta Gorda, FL. There are also numerous well-loved nieces and nephews and their families, other relatives and many very dear friends.
A memorial service celebrating Wanda's life will be held at 12noon on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at the Fiss & Bills-Poklasny Funeral Home, 865 S. Westhaven Drive in Oshkosh. The Reverend Jeffrey Knoll will officiate. A time of visitation and support will be held for the Niles family at the funeral home begining at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her name. The loss of Wanda in our daily lives leaves a huge void. The family wishes that special thanks be extended to Bethel Home and the many there that showed love and special care to our cherished "Wanda the Wonderful". We'll never forget any of you. Thanks for helping our family through the most difficult time of our lives.
