Deb Sokol
My sisters and I have gotten together with Aunt Arletta a lot over the years and it's always been a fun experience. I missed out on a few years while I lived in Texas, but once I got back to Wisconsin, the trips to see Aunt Arletta were something we all looked forward to. She greeted us with a smile and a positive attitude. Because of Aunt Arletta I got exposed to Red Robin restaurants, and I will never enter a bakery and see long johns with sprinkles on them without smiling and thinking of her.
Once Aunt Arletta moved to Oshkosh, we would carefully plan our trips. Stop at the bakery to pick up 2 (not 1, but 2) long johns (with the most sprinkles). Sometimes we got lucky and they were able to add extra sprinkles for us). Then a family trip in Karen's SUV to Oshkosh with a stop at Culver's to pick up lunch. And don't forget--Aunt Arletta doesn't like tomatoes, so remember to ask for burgers without catsup. Then over to her place for chatting, lunch, laughter, and cards. We started with "Hand and Foot," and when that became too much, we switched to "Kings in the Corner," and "Seven-up."
We heard lots about her family and her love for them echoed in her voice. We always tried to include an outing outside--just around the block, on the patio, it didn't matter. The day always ended too soon.
I almost forgot her sun-powered wiggles. She's gotten me addicted.
I will miss her.
Love, Deb
