Carlton E. Zinth's Obituary
Carlton E. "Cully" Zinth, age 100 of Oshkosh, passed away Friday morning, March 6, 2009 in the Mercy Medical Center, Oshkosh. On October 11, 1908 he was born in Oshkosh, the son of George and Flora (Benz) Zinth. He worked for Oshkosh Trunk and Luggage, the Morgan Door Company and he retired from American Excelsior. Carlton was a member of Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church (St. Mary's site). During World War II he served with the US Army during the European Theater. Baseball, bowling, fishing, gardening were among his hobbies. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was also a member of Oshkosh Softball Hall of Fame. On October 6, 1938 he married Verna Redlin in St. Mary's Rectory in Oshkosh. She passed away August 31, 1965. Survivors include his children: James "Jim" (Sue) Zinth, George (Julie) Zinth both of Oshkosh and Barb (David) Grotophorst of Wautoma; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, a brother: Norbert, a sister: Helen Patterson and his in-laws: Leslie, Ira, Earl, Irvin, Edward, Harvey Redlin, Leta Redlin, Vita Lamb, Ethel Leinhardt and Edith Beck. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebated at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 9, 2009 in the Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, (St. Mary's site) with Rev. Fr. Jim Jugenheimer as celebrant. Burial will be Lake View Memorial Park. Friends may greet the family from 10-11 a.m., Monday at the church. A memorial has been established.
