Joseph P. Mauritz's Obituary
Joseph Paul Mauritz arrived early one of the only times in his life at 7:45 AM on Sunday, March 31st, 1963. Just in time for Sunday Mass, a vibrant blond-haired Joey became the youngest in the Mauritz family in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
Joe proudly graduated from Lourdes Academy in 1981 and maintained close friendships with his partners in crime throughout the years through murderball, drinks on the lake, and attending Packer and Badger Games. Joe was very hard-working and truly enjoyed his career at Millwork Distributors where he was employed for many years. Joe could make friends with anyone and was always available to lend a helping hand or shovel his neighbor’s driveways.
Joe was always very proud of his two daughters, Jamie and Megan, and was ecstatic to welcome his grandson, Hank, to the cheesehead family this past August. Joey passed away peacefully from Lung Cancer on the evening of November 16th, 2022. He was surrounded by friends and family and shared many stories in the only way Joe can in the days leading up to his passing. He continued to crack jokes and make everyone laugh until the very end.
Joe leaves behind his parents William and Jean Mauritz, brother Michael (Karen) Mauritz, sister Julie (Steve) Rucinski, sister Mary (Tom) Chermak, partner Christine Latimer Hill, and daughters Jamie (Ricky Higuera) Mauritz and Megan (Nick) Freund and grandson Henry Freund.
A visitation will be held in honor of Joe’s memory on Monday, November 21st from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Fiss & Bills-Poklasny Funeral Home at 865 S. Westhaven Dr. Oshkosh, WI 54904. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established. One of Joe’s last wishes was that his friends and family celebrate him instead of mourning him so therefore after the visitation, we will gather at a local place to have a drink for Joe.
