Marjorie L. Hymer's Obituary
Marjorie L. Hymer of Oshkosh, WI passed away peacefully on May 18th, 2021.
Marge was born on May 8th, 1929 in Milwaukee, WI to Robert and Hildegard (nee Maedje) Lewis. After high school she attended U-W Madison, where she met her husband, John R. Hymer. Marge graduated with a business degree and worked at Kimberly Clark as an IT Support Manager and later an Account Payroll Manager.
Marge was a prominent member of the Baha’i Faith, serving as Treasurer of Oshkosh Local Spiritual Assembly for over thirty years. She lived her life through the example of love, giving, unity and integrity. Marge loved all things Wisconsin including watching the Green Bay Packers and the Brewers. But her true passion was for UW-Madison. Marge was a third generation UW-Madison alumni behind both her parents, grandfather and several aunts and uncles. She passed that love on to her son Rick, and several of her grandchildren who attended UW-Madison.
While Marge loved all her children, she had a special place in her heart for her daughter Sue, whom she helped for many years. However, if you asked Sue, she was always busy “taking care of Mom.” Throughout her lifetime Marge loved spending time with family and friends, researching her family ancestry with her cousin Barbara and being outdoors. It is through her life and generosity that her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren have special memories of time at the family cottage, fishing, swimming, and enjoying nature.
Known to her grandchildren as “Mema” she will be remembered as caring, supportive and humble in character. She attended every family event she could and showed interest in all her grandchildren’s lives and interests.
Marjorie will be dearly missed by her children: Richard (Deb), Linda, and Becky (Tony), brother-in-law Steve (Joan) Suhm, grandchildren: Kristin Kalmerton, Sara (Tyler) Trampe, Joshua Schmidt, Julie (John) Kaprelian, Kelly (Tim Tesser) Kalmerton, Kathryn (Jeremy) Vils, Jeff Hymer, Samantha (Nathaniel) Baker, Kirsten (Johnny) Forster, and Mark (Caitlyn Gussel) Hymer, great grandchildren: Hazel, Claire, Kyle, Reagan, Bennett, and Winter, cousin Barbara and several nieces and nephews and special friends Carol Doemel and Susie Schimke.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents: Robert and Hildegard Lewis, brother Carl Lewis and his wife Judy, sister Judy Suhm, daughter Susan Weigandt and her husband Dennis, and great grandchild Camdon Baker and her lifelong friend Virginia Fries.
We are eternally grateful for being blessed with such a caring and graceful mother, grandmother and dearest friend.
A special thank you to the Oshkosh Baha’i Community for their infinite support, friendship and prayers over the years.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Mayberry Manor for their exceptional and compassionate care during her stay there.
