Marvin Lloyd Robertson's Obituary
Marvin Lloyd Robertson, age 92, of Oshkosh died Tuesday January 29, 2019 at Aurora Medical Center Oshkosh. He was born January 25, 1927, in Oshkosh Wisconsin to Shirley and Sylvia Robertson. He graduated from Oshkosh High School on June 7, 1945 and was drafted into the Army on June 11, 1945 serving overseas in the European Theatre of Operations until his discharge in October 1946.
Upon his return from the Army he became an employee of Wisconsin Telephone Company (AT&T) retiring after 35 years of service. He started this career as a pole lineman working his way through the ranks to installer and eventually Inside Plant Engineering. He enjoyed his work and fondly recalled the many friends he made.
He married Mary Ann Weber on October 29, 1949, in Oshkosh. They had four children Susan, Michael, Shirley, and Mark. The family lived in Oshkosh, and later in Appleton, Wisconsin. After his retirement in the 1980s, Marvin and Mary Ann moved to their rural property in Wisconsin. Together they greatly enjoyed living on "the farm" tending woods and gardens, hunting, fishing, watching wildlife, and feeding birds. Also in their retirement they extensively traveled the U.S. visiting many national parks.
In his retirement, Marvin became a volunteer at the Wisconsin Veterans' Home in King, Wisconsin. Marv really enjoyed working with veterans assisting them with computer use and accessing library material. He volunteered weekly finding this very meaningful. In April of 2011 he was awarded an Achievement Certificate for 5,000 hours of Volunteer Service.
He took his lifelong love of photography with him when he moved to the Evergreen Retirement Community in 2015. He became the photographer for the monthly resident newsletter, Eye on Evergreen. Marv enjoyed helping other members at Evergreen and welcoming new residents to the community.
Marvin is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Mary Ann, his son Mark, and his brothers Kenneth Robertson and Bruce Robertson. He is survived by his children Susan Robertson (Edward O'Brien) of Redmond, WA, Michael (Isabel) Robertson of Columbia Falls, MT, Shirley Robertson of Oshkosh, his nieces Ellen Robertson, Oshkosh, Nancy Sell, MN, Linda Robertson, MN, and their families, all of whom he loved dearly.
