William Richard "Dick" Furniss' Obituary
William Richard “Dick” Furniss passed away unexpectedly on August 28, 2022, at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Neenah, WI. He was born on January 24, 1935, in Cleveland, OH, and was the son of Blanche and William Sheldon Furniss. He married Judith A. Imrie on September 19, 1959. He is survived by his sons James Furniss (William) and Jonathan Furniss (Kristin) of Milwaukee, grandchildren Ian, Lana, Connor, and Brooklyn and many other dear relatives and friends. Dick is preceded in death by his wife and his three sisters. Dick was a graphic artist at Bemis Flexible Packaging – Milprint Division. He was a one-man art department, starting with hand-drawn graphics and teaching himself to work on advanced computers. He loved musical theater and was very active in amateur and professional performance groups in the Milwaukee, Oshkosh, and Appleton areas. A true artist at heart, he often painted, sang in local choirs, and for many years was a member of the Mixmasters barbershop quartet. Dick was a consummate family man, open and accepting and always putting his family and sons first, making sure he participated in all aspects of their lives. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends who will always remember him as a humorous, kind, and caring person. He lived his best life for 87 years. Finding humor in his old age, he would tell his sons he was once again older than everyone in the paper’s obituaries. A celebration of his life will be held on October 22 at the Fiss & Bills-Poklasny Funeral Home, 865 S. Westhaven Drive, Oshkosh, WI 54904 at 12:30 p.m. Visitation will be held at the same location from 10:30 a.m. until the service, with lunch to follow. Private interment will be at a later date in the Milwaukee area. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Oshkosh Seniors Center Golden Tones Chorus, 200 N. Campbell Road, Oshkosh, WI 54902.
